One Main Financial closes Harlan office

One Main Financial closes Harlan office.
Customers are being directed to the Corbin office as the next nearest location. This is without a doubt an inconvenience to many customers who must now pay their bills online, mail them in or travel to Corbin to pay in person.

We can only suspect this closure is partly due to the COVID19 lockdown. Small towns continue to lose businesses due to the virus outbreak which lead to shutdown of most stores.

It appears many businesses will not recover or will have to scale back store locations to survive.
Harlan has lost the AMC Theater, One Main Financial and Gordman's. Gordman's is currently open and selling off remaining inventory.

COVID19 Delivers Death Blow To Many Businesses

The effects of the Coronavirus has changed many people's lives, especially those who have lost a loved one to it.While the lost of life is terrible and irreplaceable the economical impact is also starting to take effect. The impact to the economy could last for years, as businesses struggle to regain cash flow.

Locally, in Harlan Kentucky, we lost our only theater. It was an AMC Classic that has now permanently closed. Rally News broke the closure of the theater back near the end of April.

On a national level the closures are starting to mount up and the effects will be and is devastating to our communities, states and our country.

The popular Steak n' Shake restaurant recently said they were closing 57 stores permanently due to the conronavius. As the stress on finances builds due to the closing of indoor dining, it is inevitable that there will be closings. The closures represent about 10 percent of  the company's restaurants. Just where and what locations will lose this great place to eat is unclear at the time of this writing.

Do I Have To Wear A Face Mask in Kentucky?

Do I Have To Wear A Mask in Kentucky?

There seems to be some confusion about whether or not you are required to wear a face mask in Kentucky. At first it seemed as if Governor Andy Beshear was signing an executive order that required face mask, but later it seemed as if it was optional. This is probably what lead to some confusion.
In a quest for clarity, Rally News reach out to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron on the issue.

AG Cameron's office send us the following reply.

Land O' Lakes Changes Packaging

 Land O Lakes Changes Packaging

Land O'Lakes has removed the Native American "butter maiden" from it's packaging.
Beth Ford, Land O'Lakes' president and CEO, said the change was made ahead of the company's 100th anniversary to "[reflect] the foundation and heart of our company culture."

"Mia," the Native American woman originally appeared in 1928, seven years after Land O'Lakes was founded as the Minnesota Cooperative Creameries Association. Her presence on the packaging irked the Native American community, which said the image was racist and depicted Native women as sex objects.

They claim seeing the original image, with the butter maiden on it, makes people think of sex trafficking, and makes them see Native Americans as sex objects.

Amazon slashes affiliate payouts up to 80%. In a time when many Americans are forced to stay home, affiliate marketing is a way to make some money. If you run a website with Amazon affiliate ads on them you will now receive up to 80% less for each sale generated from your website.

The company recently sent out an email to members of the Amazon Associates program. The email starts with, “We hope you are staying well during this time” then drops a bomb on website owners that make money by referring customers to Amazon.

The email does not tell you the rates, you have to click the link to see the devastation. Many website owners and individuals rely on Amazon’s affiliate program to monetize their websites or share links other ways. These people are already hurting from the pandemic and now their income has been cut even more.

XFL Football League Has Good Opening Weekend

XFL Football League Has Good Opening Weekend

It was a good opening weekend for the new XFL professional football league. The ratings were good as 3.3 million watched this weekends games. The average attendants was 17,000 in stadium per game. While those numbers may not be eye popping, the league is off to a solid start.

The XFL is a professional American football league owned by Vince McMahon's Alpha Entertainment, and is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. The 8 team league features numerous former NFL players and coaches.

There are several rule tweaks to speed the game up and insure player safety. Most notably is the Kickoff rule which sees the teams line up a mere 5 yards apart with the kicker kicking from the 30 yard line behind the team. Another interesting rule change is with the extra point after a touchdown. Teams get the choice of selecting a 1,2 or 3 point try.
