Cold Case Files - Jennifer Bailey

A Cold Case by definition is an unsolved murder case investigation which remains open pending the discovery of new evidence.

Sometimes after many years, this new evidence comes forward in the form of a witness who seen something and had never reported it.

Bell county, Kentucky is home to several cold cases. For this post will we will feature a murder that took place 25 years ago. The Abduction and eventual murder of Jennifer Bailey started on August the 16th of 1990 but it is still fresh in the minds of many people in Bell County even today.

Here is the rundown of the case via the Kentucky State Police website.

"On 8-16-1990 Jennifer Bailey went to Pine Mountain State Park to go jogging and was reported missing on this date. On 8-26-1990 at Pine Mountain State Park about 1 1/2 miles from where Jennifer Baileys car was parked, her body was found over a bluff and all evidence indicates that she was murdered. If you have any information pertaining to this case, please contact Detective Bryan Johnson Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan 606-573-3131."

The area where Bailey went to jog is commonly call the"fat track". It is a popular spot for people to walk or jog. The normal parking area for these joggers is right next to the main highway. During this time it is very safe to assume that cars would have been passing by. Maybe someone who seen something and has never reported it, will come forward.

Bailey's body was found in an area known as the "Gravel pit". That area had previously been searched with dogs and the remains were not found. This led to the speculation that the body had been at another location and was returned at a later time.

In small towns rumors have a way of spreading around quickly. Some in the community have long believed that there is much more to this disappearance and murder that meets the eye.

Anyone with information about this cold case is urged to contact the Kentucky State Police at 606-573-3131.

WASP X-Jet

A comparison of the enhanced video (right) to the original (left).
This is a video enhancement of a video that shows the Williams WASP X- Jet in flight. Many may not know about this long lost and forgotten flying machine. In my opinion it was pretty amazing and this was back in 1974!

It would be nice to have these now on a consumer level. A quick trip to the store would not only be fun but also save time. I'm sure the 45 minutes of max flying time would have been much long by now.

This same company also invented a Jet belt back in 1969 but it seems that technology has also been kept from public use.

Here is the video.

We have to wonder, if we had this back in 1974, just what do we have now? I guess this has went the way of many of Nikola Tesla's inventions.

The "flying cars" of the future appears to have been snatched up and hid away by the government.

Clean Energy - Counting the Cost

Clean Energy - Counting the Cost
by Thomas Marcum

Over the last several years there has been a lot of talk and a push to move towards clean, renewable energy sources. Talk of climate change and carbon emissions have been talking points for most government officials the world over. But has it had any effect on the common man, woman or family?

First lets look at some statistics. In Germany 6.2 percent of electricity comes from solar energy. Germany is a world leader when it comes to solar power. In 2014, Germany was able to harness almost 36 percent of the sun's energy with it's improved solar panels.

Germany uses wind, solar and other renewable energy sources to produce a outstanding 27.8 percent of the country's total power. While that is pretty amazing, it came at a great cost.

Rewiring and creating the infrastructure for renewable energy resulted in massive cost.  At the end of 2013 that cost had reached $468 billion. This was paid by government subsidies, which in the end is passed on to the taxpayers. But that is not where it ends. In Germany, the average electricity prices for companies jumped 60 percent. Residential prices also got hit hard. The average price for residential homes when from 18 cents per kilowatt hour in 2000 to more than 37 cents in 2013. This has had some impact on the German economy. Some companies have already relocated some of their businesses out of Germany.

While most of us want to move towards cleaner energy sources, there is some problems that we need to sort out. One of the main problems is storing the collected power to use later. While we do have some battery systems, they are just not affordable or efficient enough to be reliable. That may change in the future. Another problem, when talking about wind and solar energies, is that both fluctuate. These fluctuations have causes a large increase in power disruptions. Dr. Klaus of the European Institute for Climate and Energy said the power supply in Germany "is highly vulnerable. A blackout could occur on any given day."

While most of us do want to move towards these clean energies, the move may be coming too fast and at too greater cost. In the US, the move towards natural gas and away from coal has left many America workers without a job. This shift to natural gas has resulted in a increase in electricity bills for a lot of Americans. The price of natural gas delivered to electric generators was 44 percent higher the first half of 2013 as compared to the same time frame of 2012. The end results were customers paying higher bills.

There has also been some other hopeful renewable energy sources. While some of it is less conventional. Swedish researchers are working on biological fuel cells by extracting fluorescent protein from a flow in the dark jellyfish. A french company is capturing body heat from commuters to heat apartments. A group of Nigerian teenagers developed a generator that can produce up to six hours of power on one liter of urine.

While renewable energy is a noble, noteworthy and needed endeavor, we must not force it too fast. We currently have ample supplies of fossil fuels, we should use them and continue to develop alternative resources. If, we push renewable energy too fast, as the main source of power, we run the risk of putting ourselves in a bad spot if a failure occurs. We should continue to develop and test renewable energies, work out bugs, develop better power storage and work to make it more cost efficient for the consumers. More product testing will lead to a better product and that takes time.

Deadly shooting on Oregon college campus

At least 13 people died after a gunman opened fire at an Oregon community college.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said the gunman was also dead. It wasn't clear whether the gunman was among the 13 people killed. Rosenblum also said 20 people were wounded, many critically.
The shooting happened at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, about 180 miles south of Portland. The local fire district advised people via Twitter to stay away from the school. It later tweeted that there were "multiple casualties" but did not elaborate.

The Real Cause Of The Breakdown Of Society???

The Real Cause Of The Breakdown Of Society???
By Dorraine Fisher

I’ve stopped discussing politics, religion, and social problems in mixed company because I learned something very important. And you don’t have to agree with this. You can take it for what it’s worth.

I’m really disappointed in the disagreements between social, political, and religious factions of this country. Everyone is so focused on those disagreements that they don’t even bother to take a look at that person on the other side with whom they disagree. It may sound cheesy, but believe it or not, that person is a living, breathing human being with thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and a contribution to make to society as a whole.

Everyone talks about the good of humanity and helping people but no one really means it if they reduce other human beings on the other side of the argument to a set of beliefs they don’t agree with. They assume they know everything about them, they dehumanize them and reduce them to something evil. And that makes them think it’s okay to persecute them…or worse. This is a very dangerous, slippery slope that has historically led to the extermination of certain groups of humans. Because the humanity of those people gets lost in the negativity of arguments that no one will ever really win. An argument that has least two viable perspectives that everyone involved doesn’t bother to look for.

We all agree the world is being destroyed. But it’s not being destroyed by Republicans or Democrats, blacks, whites, religious, or atheists. It’s being destroyed by the belief that those people over there are the ones that are destroying it. It’s being destroyed by the disagreements themselves. And it’s being destroyed by groups of people convincing themselves that they’re better than the others, or more right than others. It’s being destroyed by every one of us in our arrogance. Yes, I’m talking about me…and you.

If we all spent just a fraction of our time today trying to understand others and why they think the way they do, rather than reducing them to sub-humans because they don’t see things the way we do, the world would turn into a better place by tonight. But no. We’re too busy judging them and standing up on our pedestals with our self-righteous chests puffed out to take the time to bother with anything like that. And at the same time, we’ll claim that we care about all humanity. When really, all we care about is being right and being superior.

And it’s hard not to be negative about this. I don’t look for any of it to change anytime soon. It’s hard for us humans to change our minds. If we accept a new thought or idea, we’d have to admit we were wrong before. And we just can’t do that, because if we were wrong about this, we might be wrong about a whole lot of other things too. And we just can’t face that. Because being wrong is the worst thing in the world. Right?

Wrong. The strongest, wisest people are the ones who can suddenly one day have an epiphany and change their world view. They try the hardest to understand…rather than jumping to conclusions and assuming to completely understand the hearts and minds of those on the opposing side before they’ve even spoken to each other.

So understand this: If we allow our beliefs, perceptions, and ideas to override love, compassion, and understanding, then it’s already the end of the world as we know it. We’ve ALL already lost. Real compassion is sometimes about doing everything in our power to understand those with whom we disagree the most.

Because once we do that, we always find common ground and the argument is over. We find we agree on a lot of things. Things that we would never have known about each other if we hadn’t taken a long look and really seen them: Good things.

Nothing is black and white. There is so much gray area. Every subject of every argument is far more complex than we care to admit. There isn’t always just one right answer. So understanding the other side completely is the only way to really solve any problem. This is the world we’ve created and we all have free will. We can keep destroying it with our arbitrary beliefs and opinions or we can turn the page and really make an honest effort to understand.
It’s up to all of us. *******DF
