XFL Football League Has Good Opening Weekend

It was a good opening weekend for the new XFL professional football league. The ratings were good as 3.3 million watched this weekends games. The average attendants was 17,000 in stadium per game. While those numbers may not be eye popping, the league is off to a solid start.

The XFL is a professional American football league owned by Vince McMahon's Alpha Entertainment, and is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. The 8 team league features numerous former NFL players and coaches.

There are several rule tweaks to speed the game up and insure player safety. Most notably is the Kickoff rule which sees the teams line up a mere 5 yards apart with the kicker kicking from the 30 yard line behind the team. Another interesting rule change is with the extra point after a touchdown. Teams get the choice of selecting a 1,2 or 3 point try.

During the weekends games the XFL Facebook page was very active with numerous updates and fan interactions.

The games were competitive and filled with several big hits and big plays. The talent level seems to be very high.

In the end it will be the fans who determine if the league continues to be successful.
