Petition to Save Family Friendly Content on Youtube - Gaining Steam
An online petition to have the FTC clarify the wording to COPPA rule is gaining steam. The new rules were put in place to protect children but it is having a very negative not only on Youtube creators but also videos watched by children.
This new rule will undoubtedly lead to less family friendly content. Some channels are already feeling the effects of the rule change. For example, a song created for kids and family has been flagged under the new rules. The song is something that is innocent and something similar to those sung at some schools.
Other videos that might be interesting to kids could also be flagged. Videos about new toys, or videos games or even science experiments are potentially not safe under this new rule.
The creators of these types of videos will loose the ability to show ads on their videos, which means they will probably stop making videos altogether or at the very least stop making family friendly videos.
Also under this new rule the creators of family friendly kid videos can even be fined up to thousands of dollars per video!
You can help reverse this by signing the petition and asking for more clarity on the new rule.

We are all for protecting children, but taking away family friendly content is not a way to do it.
