Eastern Kentucky man charged with murdering son

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - An arrest had been made in a case from May 2017 in Knox County.
Kentucky State Police said the body of Charles Phipps, 33, of Kay Jay was found inside his home on May 11, 2017. They said his body was burned and an autopsy showed he had what was believed to be a gunshot wound on his torso.

Troopers said on October 31, 2018, they received new information saying Paul Phipps, 60, of Barbourville had shot and killed his son.

They said Paul walked over to his son's home next door to get his 9mm pistol when a physical altercation happened. Troopers said 15 to 20 minutes later multiple gunshots were heard and then Paul walked back to his home and said his son's house was filled with fire and smoke.

Troopers said on November 5 they found a severely burned 9mm pistol in Paul's bedroom closet.
Paul was charged with murder and taken to the Knox County Detention Center.
The case is still under investigation.
